Emergency plumbing in Tampa, 24 hours a day

Water where it shouldn't be doesn't wait until Monday. Neither do we.

If water is running somewhere it shouldn't and you can't stop it, the first move is the shut-off valve, and the second is this number. Most of what makes a plumbing emergency expensive isn't the repair itself. It's the hours the water keeps running before anyone turns up.

We're licensed for plumbing and septic both, which matters more than it sounds. A toilet backing up at midnight might be a blocked lateral, or it might be a septic tank that filled three weeks ago. One company handles either.

Call us now if any of this is happening

These are the problems where waiting makes the bill bigger:

  • Water you can't shut off. A burst supply line, a failed shut-off valve, a split water heater tank.
  • Sewage coming back up through a shower, tub or floor drain. That one is a health risk, and it's the only problem on this list we'd never tell you can wait.
  • No water at all to the property, which usually means a main line break or a failed pressure regulator.
  • The smell of gas near a line, water heater or appliance. Leave the building, then call the gas utility, then call us.
  • A septic alarm sounding. Something in the system has stopped keeping up and the tank is filling past where it should.
  • Water coming through a ceiling or wall on a lower floor, which means it has been running a while already.

Before you call, find your shut-off. For most Tampa homes it's at the street in a concrete box, or on the wall where the supply enters. Turning it off stops the damage clock. If you can't find it or it won't turn, tell us when you call and we'll talk you through it.

What happens when you call

  1. A person picks up. Not a menu, not an answering service taking a message for the morning.
  2. We work out how bad it is. Some problems need a plumber tonight. Some can be made safe over the phone and properly fixed in daylight for less money. We'll tell you which one you have.
  3. We tell you when we can be there. An honest answer based on where our crews actually are, not a number from a billboard.
  4. We diagnose before we quote. You get the price and what it covers before anyone starts work.
  5. We finish it, or make it safe and come back with the right equipment if it turns out to need excavation or a pump truck.

Repair tonight or replace properly later

Not every emergency needs the full job done at 2am. Emergency rates exist for a reason, and sometimes the smart move is to stop the damage now and do the permanent repair in normal hours.

What drives the cost

We price the job, not the panic. What moves the number:

  • Access. A fitting behind a panel costs less than one under a slab.
  • What failed. A valve is a part. A corroded cast iron stack is a project.
  • Excavation. Anything requiring the yard opened up brings equipment and restoration into the price.
  • Hour of day. Overnight and holiday work costs more than Tuesday morning, which is exactly why we'll tell you if yours can wait.
  • Age of the system. On older Tampa homes a repair sometimes reveals pipe that won't hold a repair at all.

Financing is available on the larger jobs, which is most of the ones involving excavation or whole-system replacement.

What breaks in Tampa specifically

Local housing stock drives most of our emergency calls. Homes built before roughly 1975 generally have cast iron drain lines, and Florida's humidity and soil chemistry corrode them from the inside until the bottom of the pipe gives out. Homes built between about 1978 and 1995 often have polybutylene supply pipe, which fails at the fittings and is now a routine flag during insurance inspections.

Then there's the water table. Much of Tampa sits low and wet, which means a leak under a slab can run for weeks without ever showing on the surface, and a septic drain field that's coping fine in April can stop accepting water entirely after a week of summer storms.

Hurricane season adds its own pattern. Power cuts stop septic pumps and lift stations. Storm surge pushes water back up sewer laterals. If a storm is coming and your system is already marginal, it's worth a call before the weather arrives rather than during it.

We had to replace our main water line on rather quick notice, which was no easy feat with a 300 plus stretch of various tree roots, sprinkler lines, and pool lines in the way. Tampa Bay Plumbers, Mike Benson and crew did a fantastic job of avoiding breaking all obstacles and laying a new line quickly and professionally.

I needed to have the water heater in my house replaced urgently. I called TB Plumbers, and they dispatched a tech (Jason) immediately. He gave me a quote, which was reasonable. TB Plumbers (David) improved on their initial quote, and I went with them. Jason did a superb job with the replacement.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a real plumbing emergency?

Anything actively causing damage or making the property unsafe. Burst or leaking pipes, sewage backing up indoors, no water at all, a gas smell, a septic alarm, or a water heater leaking onto the floor. If you're not sure, call and describe it. We'll tell you honestly whether it needs someone tonight.

Should I turn the water off before you arrive?

Yes, if water is escaping and you can reach the shut-off safely. It's usually at the street in a concrete box, or on the wall where the supply enters the building. Stopping the flow limits the damage. If you can't find it or it won't budge, say so when you call.

Do you charge more at night?

Overnight, weekend and holiday work costs more than a weekday appointment. That's why we'll tell you when a problem can safely wait until morning rather than quietly charging you the premium for something that didn't need it.

Do you handle commercial emergencies?

Yes. Restaurants, retail units, offices and multi-unit residential. Commercial work brings grease traps, lift stations and backflow devices into play, and we cover all of them.

Can you deal with sewage that has already come inside?

We clear the cause and get the system working again. For contaminated carpet, drywall and contents you'll also want a remediation company, and we'll tell you plainly when a job has crossed that line rather than leaving you to discover it later.
