Pump work is urgent, unglamorous and easy to do badly. Our review record covers thousands of jobs including the awkward ones, and every entry is public and attached to a real profile.
When the waste has to go uphill, a pump is the only thing standing between you and a backup.

Gravity does most of the work in most drainage systems. Where it can't, a pump does. Grinder pumps and lift stations exist because the sewer connection sits higher than the property, or because the run is too long and too flat for gravity alone.
The consequence is simple: when the pump stops, everything backs up, and it backs up fast because there's no slack in the system. This is one of the few failures that goes from fine to flooded in hours.
| Fault | Common cause | Typical fix |
|---|---|---|
| Pump won't start | Power, breaker, capacitor or dead motor | Test the circuit first, then the pump |
| Runs but doesn't clear | Worn impeller or cutter, or a blocked discharge | Clear or replace the wet end |
| Short cycling | Float set wrong or fouled | Clean or replace and reset levels |
| Jammed cutter | Wipes, rags, grease, solid objects | Clear the jam, inspect for damage |
| Panel fault | Weather, corrosion, failed relay | Repair or replace the panel |
| Repeated failures | Pump undersized for the load | Resize rather than replace like for like |
Worth its own heading, because it causes more grinder pump failures than anything else. Wipes marketed as flushable pass through a toilet and then do not break down. In a grinder pump they wrap the cutter; in a lift station they rope together into a mass that blocks the discharge. If a property has had repeated pump failures and nobody can explain why, this is the first thing to check, particularly on rentals and multi-unit buildings where nobody owns the consequence.
On commercial sites the pump is part of the operation, and a failure closes the business rather than inconveniencing a household. We service and repair duplex stations, control panels, floats and alarms, and we'd rather set up a maintenance interval than meet you on the worst day of your quarter.
What commercial sites should be doing: regular inspection of floats and cutters, checking that both pumps in a duplex station actually alternate, keeping the alarm circuit tested, and treating grease at source so it never reaches the station.
Pumps need electricity, and hurricane season takes electricity away. A property on a grinder pump with no power has, in practical terms, no drainage, and the household keeps producing water regardless. This is the most predictable failure we see all year.
If you're on a pump system, learn where your panel and breaker are before you need them in the dark, and know that an alarm during an outage is usually the system telling the truth rather than a fault. When the power comes back, if the alarm doesn't clear, that's the point to call.

Grinder pumps appear on septic systems and on sewer connections alike. Holding Florida plumbing license CFC1425985 alongside full septic capability means the same crew handles either without a handover.
With no gravity fallback, a failed pump backs up quickly. Our line is staffed every hour of every day, which is the point of having a number for this at all.

Denis and Roland were a pleasure to work with. We had a detailed plan and restrictions we needed to work within for our project. They were able to complete everything that was asked of them, in a timely manner and at a great price! Definitely would recommend for your plumbing needs.Kyle Scannell

I had my house re-plumbed and Dunieski Rodriguez and his team did a great job! They were very professional and hard working. I would definitely recommend Tampa Bay Plumbers and that team to anyone.Victoria D. Karr

I needed to have the water heater in my house replaced urgently. I called TB Plumbers, and they dispatched a tech (Jason) immediately. He gave me a quote, which was reasonable. TB Plumbers (David) improved on their initial quote, and I went with them. Jason did a superb job with the replacement.Mark Mekki
Silence it if there's a button, then stop using water as far as you reasonably can. No laundry, no dishwasher, short showers. Check whether the breaker has tripped, because that's the one cause that costs nothing to fix. Then call.
Usually wipes, grease, or a pump undersized for the actual load. Repeated failures are a design or usage problem rather than bad luck, and replacing like for like just resets the clock.
Yes. They pass through the toilet and then don't break down, so they wrap the cutter or rope together in the discharge. They're the single most common cause of grinder pump failure we see.
The pump stops and the chamber fills while the household keeps using water. An alarm during an outage is usually correct rather than faulty. Minimise water use until power returns, and call if the alarm doesn't clear once it does.
Yes, including duplex stations, panels, floats and alarms. For commercial sites we'd much rather agree a service interval than be called on the day it stops.
